Welcome to Yale Glee Club Auditions 2011
Why should I audition?
The Yale Glee Club is Yale's principal undergraduate mixed chorus and oldest musical organization, currently in our 151st year.
Originally a group of 13 men from the class of 1863, today we are an 80-voice choir of women and men. Throughout our history, the Glee Club has not only been a place for great music, but for friendships which last a lifetime.
Directed by School of Music professor Jeffrey Douma, the Glee Club's diverse repertoire includes everything from short a cappella pieces to major choral orchestral works, and we premiere new works by leading and emerging composers each season. We've sung for audiences on six continents and tour every year.
Join generations of Yale students who have found their musical home at Yale in the Glee Club!

When do auditions take place?
The Yale Glee Club will hold auditions this year from Tuesday, Aug. 30 to Saturday, Sep. 3. Callback auditions will take place during the afternoon on Sunday, Sep. 4, so please keep this time available.
For details, or to find out more about who we are and what we do, please visit us at:
- the Frosh Bazaar of Undergraduate Organizations, Lanman Center of Payne Whitney Gymnasium, Sunday, Aug. 28, 12:00noon - 3:00pm
- and come to our Introductory Meeting, in Hendrie Hall Room 201, Tuesday, Aug. 30, 5:30pm
The introductory meeting will tell you more about the Glee Club and our plans for the coming year, and is also where you can sign up for an audition time. If you can't come to the introductory meeting, the sign-up sheets will be on the bulletin board outside Hendrie Hall Room 201. You can also email our director at jeffrey.douma@yale.edu.
Audition process
Come to Hendrie Hall Room 201, where a Glee Club officer will greet you. Please plan to arrive about 5 minutes early so you have time to complete a short informational card. During the audition, you'll be asked to do some vocal warm-ups, ear-training exercises, sight-reading, and to sing a piece of your own choosing (this does not have to be memorized and can be a cappella). Art songs, arias, folks songs, hymns, and musical theater selections are all good choices.
The final list of Glee Clubbers for the new school year will be posted on the bulletin board outside Hendrie Hall Room 201 on the evening of Sunday, Sep. 4. The time of the posting depends on the length of deliberations, but the list will be up by dawn on Monday, Sep. 5. Our first rehearsal is that night at 7pm!
What We Expect of Members
Our main requirement is full participation in rehearsals and performances. Rehearsals are held Monday and Wednesday evenings from 7:00 - 9:00PM, and we have 4 to 5 concerts each semester, in addition to our spring break tour.
