Welcome to Yale Glee Club Auditions 2010!
Why should I audition?
The Yale Glee Club is Yale's oldest singing tradition, having just celebrated our 149th anniversary. Originally a group of 13 men from the class of 1863, today we are an 80-voice choir of women and men. Throughout our history, the Glee Club has not only been a place for great music, but for friendships which last a lifetime.
Our diverse repertoire includes everything from short a cappella pieces to major choral orchestral works, and we premiere new works by leading and emerging composers each season. We've sung for audiences on six continents; this year we'll be singing everywhere from Florida to the Dominican Republic, collaborating with renowned guest artists and conductors from around the globe. Directed by School of Music professor Jeffrey Douma, we also act as an integral part of the Yale and New Haven communities, performing as keepers of the Yale songs and engaging in outreach activities with New Haven schools. Simply put, we are the Yale undergraduate choir, and if being in a serious choir is something you love to do (or have always wanted to do), don't miss your chance to audition and become part of the Glee Club family!

How to audition
The Yale Glee Club holds auditions from Thursday Sep. 2- Sunday Sep. 5. For up-to-date audition information or to find out more about who we are and what we do, find us at:
- the Frosh Bazaar of Undergraduate Organizations, on Beinecke Plaza, Sunday August 29, time 12:00N - 3:00PM
- and come to our Introductory Meeting, in Hendrie Hall Room 201, Wednesday, September 1st, time 5:30PM
The introductory meeting will tell you all about Glee Club, our current repertoire and tour schedule. It's also where to sign-up for auditions. If you can't come to the introductory meeting, the sign-up sheets will be on the bulletin board outside Hendrie Hall room 201. Audition times are Thursday, September 2nd through Saturday, September 5th.
What We Expect of Members
Our main requirement is full participation and commitment. Rehearsals are held Monday and Wednesday evenings from 7 - 9 p.m. Members are expected to attend every rehearsal, arriving a few minutes early so warm-ups can begin promptly at 7. Concerts and dress rehearsals are obligatory.
There will be a nominal charge for traveling on Winter Tour and International Tour, students will also be responsible for a few meals, personal expenses, and minimal tour social dues. Members should expect to pay for the purchase of concert dress and approximately $90 in fees for the year, including the Winter Tour social dues, dues for the rehearsal retreat, and for other social activities.
Financial Aid, including full scholarship, is available for all tours and fees.
Audition Process
Step one: relax. Come to your audition about 5 minutes early, because there's an informational card to fill out. Come to Hendrie Hall room 201, where a Glee Club officer will greet you. When you get into the audition room, you'll be asked to do some simple warm-ups, ear-training exercises, some sight-reading, and a piece of your own (which does not have to be memorized). The piece of your own can really be anything you're comfortable with and which shows the color of your voice.
The final list of Glee Clubbers for the new school year will be posted on the bulletin board outside Hendrie Hall room 201 on the evening of Sunday, September 5th. The time of the posting depends on the length of deliberations, but the list will be up by dawn on Monday, September 6th. Our first rehearsal is that night at 7 p.m!
